Oil Spill & Salvage

Two ships collided in middle of Mumbai harbour channel and the entire country, after 63 yrs of independence, still looks upto a foreigner to clear the channel. The most ironical thing was the presence of Navy, Coast Guard, DG Shipping, MMB officials in this meeting. Navys and Coast Guards all over the world give directions to their shipping community in these types of crisis and here, we are - collectively looking at a lone foreigner for salvation and salvage. And this is despite teh fact that this is the third time the salvage needs have arisen - ICGS Vivek, Khalijila III and now MSC Chitra. All salvage jobs done by the same company. Do we sense something? Why no raising the knowledge level in the country, why the same salvor again and again?
